“Great doulas are not great because of their techniques; they are great because of their passion.”

I’ve debated about how I want utilize this blog for a few weeks now. I’ve decided that this is the space that’s my very own and I get to use it however feels right. I want you to get a sense of who I am, for you to be comfortable with me before you even get a chance to meet me or hire me.

Earlier this week I shared a post on my personal Facebook page the quote was “Great doulas are not great because of their techniques; they are great because of their passion.”

Anybody can learn support techniques and help another person get through labor, it’s something we have been doing since the beginning of time. I’m not saying that to downplay that type of support, it's valuable and will be incredibly helpful.

Passion on the other hand cannot be taught or gained over time. The passion I have for birth and postpartum work runs deep into my core. I feel as though everything I’ve been through has prepared me to fill this role and help change the way society supports families through this transformation.

How we birth our babies matters. Were we respected? Did our provider support us through the tough decisions with compassion and evidence based information? Did our provider get informed consent before doing any procedures or exams? Did they go over the risks and benefits in a way that was easy to understand?

For me, it’s not a matter vaginal or cesarean, medicated or unmedicated, breast or bottle. It’s about helping my clients gather all of the necessary information to make the choices that are best for themselves, their baby, and their family unit as a whole. I want you to feel supported and heard. I want you to feel secure in your decisions because you knew your options.
